Austro-Hungarian monarchy, among the most formidable in history, has left an enduring imprint on the historical and developmental landscape of city Mostar.
Recognizing the city’s strategic importance, the monarchy constructed a network of fortifications surrounding city of Mostar. These forts were strategically
positioned on the hills, offering a commanding view for effective defense against
potential adversaries.
The majority of these fortifications were erected southeast of the city in the Podvelezje region, a route now traversed by a cycling trail. This trail is a part of
the Bike Park Velez, where the fortifications are meticulously marked. The fusion of historical significance and modern recreational use allows visitors to explore the remnants of the Austro-Hungarian fortifications while enjoying outdoor activities.
